Jo Orange

My name is Jo Mausolf and I’m the SA-BEST candidate for the seat of Reynell in the State election on March 17.

I am a resident of Christies Beach and believe that I can effectively represent the people of Reynell and make positive changes in our area. I grew up locally and went to Christies Beach High School.

For the past 30 years I have taught children in SA, interstate and overseas. I believe all children should be given an equal opportunity to receive quality education, regardless of their socio-economic background. If elected, I will strive to make this happen by ensuring there is a proper level of funding, resources and support for teachers and parents.

This seat has been held by Labor for 21 years. Labor has rewarded your loyalty by closing Noarlunga Hospital’s 29-bed medical ward under the 'Transforming Health' plan. The excessive travel time now required to access the same services at Flinders Medical Centre and the cost of parking at FMC has not been adequately addressed, putting unnecessary stress on patients and their families.

I will try my hardest to have the Noarlunga Hospital decision reversed. Send Mr Weatherill a message. Hold him to account. Vote for me and SA-BEST to work for your best interests.

I’m aware of the struggles families in our electorate have with meeting the high cost of living, especially the exorbitant power prices that have resulted from poor government decisions and priorities. SA-BEST has a plan to ease the pain.

The issue of employment is of great concern throughout Reynell. We need common sense solutions, such as addressing payroll tax to encourage small business to grow and employ more people. We should also look at ways to redevelop the 250 hectares of land at Port Stanvac for housing, business and recreation. Under Mr Weatherill, nowhere near enough has been done.

I would like to see the development of a properly designed and resourced linear park along Christies Creek as I believe it would provide great recreational opportunities and promote a real sense of community.

After 16 years of Labor in power, and after 21 years of Labor representing the people of Reynell, I strongly believe that it’s time - not with the Liberals, but with SA-BEST from the sensible centre. Together, we can work towards a better future for Reynell and South Australia. Please join me in making it happen.

If you’d like to talk about what concerns you in Reynell, you can email me at or call the campaign office on (08) 8545 0400.

With best wishes,

My key issues in Reynell

Cut payroll tax to encourage small and medium-sized business to grow and employ more people. Give people the ability to expand their business opportunities without crippling taxes. A TAFE system that works instead of the mess Labor’s delivered. Make more land available for a mix of industrial and commercial functions. SA kids must have opportunities to stay in SA rather than leaving for interstate.

Restore services to the Noarlunga Hospital so that locals and particularly senior citizens and their families don’t have to travel to the Flinders Medical Centre all the time. Labor’s ‘Transforming Health’ has been a disaster for the south.

The Debelle Royal Commission found that the SA Education Department needs to be reformed. As an experienced classroom teacher, I am well-placed to help with the process. More resources need to be put into schools instead of head office.

Cost of living

Sixteen years of Labor has given SA some of the highest electricity prices in the world. Average wholesale energy prices in SA have more than doubled since this time last year. SA-BEST will prioritise making power more affordable and reliable. SA-BEST will encourage more people to generate and store their own power. It will also seek ways to ease the cost of living pressures on pensioners, students and those in need of financial support.

Linear Park

I will advocate for the Christies Creek Linear Trail to be completed from the coast to Morphett Vale and possibly beyond. The State Government should financially assist Onkaparinga Council in making the trail accessible through Christie Downs so that it becomes a community asset. Plans should be released for community consultation. This would be a great recreational opportunity for our community.

Care for Senior Citizens

More must be done to provide high-quality not-for-profit nursing home places in the south. Families should not have to travel long distances to visit and care for their loved ones.
