My priority is making our public transport safer. For example, it is unacceptable that commuters in the area are expected to walk across a freight train line to get to the passenger platform, so I have started a petition to have an underpass built at Chidda station. This oversight is symbolic of the neglect that the State Government has shown the North throughout the years. Our railway stations also need to be more frequently serviced.
My name is Tarnia George and I’m running as the SA-BEST candidate for Ramsay. I am passionate about making a difference and with your support I will bring a voice back to the people of Ramsay who have been ignored for too long.
I want to help make SA a better place to live for our kids and for future generations – this includes increasing job opportunities, making where we live safer, reducing the cost of living and reducing the impact we’re having on the environment.
Since the electorate of Ramsay was created in 1985 it has been considered a ‘safe’ Labor seat, and because of this, the government has stopped listening to people in the Northern suburbs and the Liberals have been missing in action.
I want to bring the Government’s focus back to the people in Ramsay whose lives are affected by the decisions made in State Parliament.
When I was studying and working irregular hours at a casual job I had a tough time providing for my family and saving for a home, so I understand the struggles faced by many others in our community. I am determined not to let good people who fall on tough times fall through cracks in the system.
I have worked in the retail, hospitality and automotive industries, and most recently as an Electorate Officer for former Senator Skye Kakoschke-Moore. This experience has given me a valuable insight into how politics works, what needs to change and how I can best help people.
My SA-BEST colleagues and I will work tirelessly to fix the problems of job losses and underemployment, the rising costs of utilities and substance abuse. This will reduce inequality, improve opportunities and bring back hope for our young people.
I am asking you for the privilege of representing you in the seat of Ramsay to put the North back on the map!
I would like to meet as many of you as possible over the next few weeks, and I look forward to hearing your concerns and suggestions for our community.

Local council accountability
If elected I will ensure that the council is delivering value for money services, that they are transparent and honest with how they are spending ratepayers’ dollars, and that they are getting the best possible deal on planned projects.
Our education system needs fixing. Why shouldn’t our kids in the public system receive the same opportunities as those in the private system? I will fight to ensure that our kids all have the same opportunities, regardless of their background.
The closure of the Holden plant nearby has caused many to lose hope for the future. SA-BEST will fight to bring investment and innovation back to the region to provide jobs and opportunities, give our young people hope for the future, and tackle the combined issues of unemployment and underemployment.
Substance abuse and mental health
SA has the highest levels of ‘ice’ use in the nation - affecting households and impacting families and communities. SA-BEST wants this issue tackled head on with proper resources and help including mandatory rehabilitation.
We also need to fill in the gaps for so many who are suffering with mental health problems.
Waiting lists in our local public hospitals are too long - due in part to cost blowouts of the new RAH. I’ll make it a priority to reduce hospital lists and emergency department waiting times.
