My name is Helen Szuty and I’m your SA-BEST candidate for Playford.

I have lived in South Australia for nearly twenty years, having previously lived in the ACT and represented the community in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

I also have a professional background in education, community services, publishing, tourism and field research. Playford will benefit from these experiences if I’m your elected Member of Parliament.

I want SA to be the most desirable place in Australia to live and work. The fact that we have fewer younger people living in SA today than thirty-five years ago shows how badly you have been let down by Labor and Liberal.

Every voter deserves to have pride and confidence in their local member and believe their best interests are being served. I will promote regular, meaningful consultation on a wide range of issues within Playford. We need innovation and creativity to be encouraged and rewarded so that small, medium and large businesses thrive and prosper.

I want to make Playford an electorate in which ALL people have a voice, are valued and appreciated for who they are and what they bring to their local community and to society as a whole.

In this amazingly diverse electorate we deserve lower power and fuel prices, access to first-class health and hospital facilities and high quality, accessible and affordable education and training.

Together we can make it happen in Playford - transparent, accountable government that acts in your interests. Be part of real change you can trust by voting for SA-BEST on 17 March!

I would like to hear from you about your concerns, ideas and feedback. You can email me at or call the campaign office on (08) 8545 0400.

Best Wishes,

Helen Szuty

Just some of the issues I’ll focus on...

Mawson Lakes

Mawson Lakes needs a level of government service that supports the needs of over 20,000 workers and residents in the area. The size of the Mawson Lakes Interchange, parking at the railway station, noise, the quality of roads and local amenity remain pressing issues and need the immediate attention of both the State Government and the City of Salisbury. As the home of the University of SA’s Mawson Lakes Campus and Technology Park, Mawson Lakes is ideally situated to drive future business investment and jobs growth. More effective working relationships need to be established and developed to produce this growth.

Modbury Hospital

The degradation of health and hospital services for patients under Labor must stop and Modbury Hospital must be able to effectively meet the needs of local residents. Acute care and emergency services and a viable acute ward of 20 beds or more is required immediately.

Parafield Gardens Footbridge

A footbridge is needed at the end of Whites Road to enable pedestrian and bicycle access across the Little Para River. This footbridge will also enable older residents to access the nearby Paralowie Plaza.

Substance Abuse

The ‘ice’ epidemic is a serious issue that deserves urgent outcomes. Well-funded rehabilitation programs (including mandatory rehabilitation in certain circumstances) are required to prevent permanent disability from the effects of addiction. We also need a culture change to minimise addiction in the first place.

Predatory Gambling

The impact of pokies and online gambling is hurting too many in our community. SA-BEST will make it a priority to reign in the damage caused by predatory gambling with strong effective policies.
