Adoption of more responsible, transparent and accountable government decision making will help to ensure decisions are merit based and free of political favouritism and bias. This is essential to grow our economy.
My name is Kate Bickford and I am standing for the seat of Badcoe with the SA-BEST team because I want the BEST future possible for our State and we don’t have time to waste.
I share Nick Xenophon’s view that “voters are presently faced with a choice between the government that deserves to lose and an opposition that doesn’t deserve to win”.
It is because of these poor choices, and my strong belief that South Australia can do better that I want to offer the people of Badcoe a positive and responsible alternative. SA-BEST offers voters a real choice for a better future. We urgently need to fix the broken politics of our state and kick start our economy to save small business and create employment opportunities.
I have lived in Forestville, within the electorate of Badcoe, for nearly 20 years. I am a devoted mother of two primary school aged kids and I run a busy commercial legal practice. I am not a professional politician, however, I believe I have the essential expertise to make a highly effective local representative. Through a combination of my life and professional experience I know how to listen, how to analyse problems to find solutions and when necessary, how to fight for what is right. I am both a strong negotiator and advocate.
I am dismayed that the current government has done little over its 16 years in power to future-proof this State. Young people are leaving in droves because they can’t find a start here. Power prices are crippling households and businesses alike with no relief in sight. We have also been let down in other key areas such as quality healthcare, aged care, education and urban planning.
The good news is that there are many practical, common sense things that can be done to improve the State. I want to ensure that politics doesn’t get in the way of good decision making. Good government requires greater accountability and transparency.
I strongly believe that we have an opportunity to make a difference to improve our future at this election. I am excited and optimistic at the prospect of what we can achieve together.

Some of the issues that need real action…
Energy- Supply and Pricing Relief
We need to provide targeted programs to assist households, small business, community groups and sporting clubs, etc to assess their individual energy plans to immediately identify ways to reduce costs.
We need to prioritise relief mechanisms for low income earners, the elderly and new arrival Australians.
We should support local South Australian energy innovation companies and ensure their greater widespread uptake. Within the framework of state parliament we should work more cooperatively with the federal government to achieve a better energy deal for South Australia.
We need to advocate for better planning laws to ensure sustainable development. This means higher quality urban infill through requirement of larger block sizes. There should also be consideration of the impact on the environment and community.
We need to prioritise a safety review of local traffic hot spots along South Road, Anzac Highway and Goodwood Road and along the railway line as well as interior streets to save lives without adverse impact on local traders or traffic flow. Where possible we should continue to promote bike riding and public transport.
