Sam is our candidate for the seat of Narungga. He is excited about the opportunity for positive change and being able to represent his regional and agricultural electorate.
He lives in Wallaroo with his wife, stepson and their 3yo puppy, and works in the southern Yorke Peninsula farming areas.
Sam’s a proud fifth generation South Australian on both sides of his family. He comes from a family farm on the Copper Coast region of the Yorke Peninsula, working as an agronomist for 21 years.
Growing up with summer holidays at Wallaroo led to an interest in swimming and lifesaving. Sam taught VACSWIM for many years. In his 30s, Sam was a lifeguard at a summer camp for homeless children in upstate New York, where he was promoted to Waterfront Director. In this role Sam was able to demonstrate leadership by introducing lessons, and creating their first Learn to Swim program.
As an agronomist, Sam has excelled at innovation, bringing new technologies to fruition for the benefit of all. His tireless passion for best management practice has helped many farmers in the Narungga region to achieve their best outcomes. Sam is recognised for his achievements and passion for agronomy across Australia and also abroad, having presented his work to Canadian universities, agronomists and agribusinesses.
A born leader, Sam was twice elected (in 2004 and 2007) to Australia’s Young Leaders of Agriculture. Sam’s own business has created opportunities for others to work in Canada, with the Agri-Scout program, and working with Australian agribusinesses, he has coached and mentored many young agronomists.
Sam’s strong advocacy for South Australian farmers and the rural community will be important to help grow the state’s economy.
