Michelle is our candidate for the electorate of Chaffey. She is committed to working together with her resilient community to build social, economic and environmental stability.
Michelle and her husband Chris have lived and raised their two sons in the Riverland over the past 20 years. Owning and managing a small grape block, combined with 20 years of working on state and federal water reform in the Murray Darling Basin, Michelle has a good understanding of water availability, reliability and the high overheads involved in running a horticulture business.
Michelle has represented the Berri-Barmera region as an elected member on council and worked in the Chaffey electorate office for a number of years. This has put Michelle at the coalface of issues of importance to Chaffey; like the difficulty in getting what you need from government departments, the concerning levels of mental health, drug addiction and homelessness issues in the region, the lack of support for small volunteer community groups and, most commonly, the impact of high energy prices.
Being a local with strong family ties, along with her experience in local government and in water reform in the Murray basin, Michelle will be strong advocate for Chaffey to strengthen local communities by bringing them together and building on each other’s success.
Michelle has an energy and passion that makes her a valuable member of the SA-BEST team that is committed to families, the vulnerable, and the horticulture and dryland sectors that make the electorate of Chaffey unique.
Michelle has been involved in a number of sporting clubs and community groups and volunteers with her local church. Michelle listens, investigates and works collaboratively to find solutions.
