Helen is the SA-BEST candidate for the seat of Playford. She is hugely enthusiastic about the opportunity to represent the people of Playford in state parliament.
Aside from being strongly engaged in local community affairs, she already has parliamentary experience, having served in the ACT Legislative Assembly, sharing the balance of parliamentary power in Canberra in the early 1990s.
Helen moved to South Australia in 1999. Helen settled in Burra and owned and operated her own small business editing and publishing “The Visitors Monthly...” magazine. Helen has long involved herself in community affairs. She has held the positions of Spokesperson for the Ratepayers Action Group (Regional Council of Goyder) and Spokesperson for the Group of Concerned Burra & District Residents advocating for the resident Burra doctor to attend accidents and emergencies at Burra Hospital. Helen understands small business and the importance of working well with other people while making a contribution to the wellbeing of her community.
In recent years, based in the Barossa with her partner John, Helen has worked under contract as a Field Interviewer with Roy Morgan Research on a variety of projects.
Helen graduated from the University of WA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (with a double major in Psychology) and continued her studies graduating with a Master of Education (School Counselling) Degree from the former Canberra College of Advanced Education, now the University of Canberra. Helen values education and believes in offering every person the opportunity to realise their potential and their passion in life.
Helen worked in Community Services in Canberra in the roles of Coordinator of the Canberra Homemaker Service (Canberra Family Support Service) based at Catholic Social Services and Director of Weston Creek Community Service. At the time she also held executive positions including President of the ACT Council of P & C Associations and Chairperson of the Fraser Primary School Board while her son was at school.
